A market-leading and high growth software, data analytics & technical engineering services business seek a UK qualified solicitor to take up post in a newly created role as Group Head of Legal.

Location – Hybrid: Remote home working + 2 days p/w in the Crawley/Gatwick area HQ
(rail station within short walking distance & parking available)
An opportunity for a UK qualified (SRA registered) solicitor to take up position in a newly created Group Head of Legal for a truly innovative c.£40m t/o, highly profitable and continually expanding business group.
Joining a hugely successful technology & technical services group, the Group Head of Legal will report to the CEO/CFO and take hands-on ownership, lead process development and advise across all legal affairs for the group BU's including:
• Commercial - Group commercial contracts, policy, IP, DP
• Corporate - Shareholder agreements, Co Sec, HR/Employment, Property
• Litigation & claim management - in-house ownership and external counsel engagement
• M&A - This business has a track record of both organic growth and acquisition
• Engagement of legal L&D/awareness to commercial and technical functions
The business has established corporate and commercial functions, including a dedicated commercial contracts management team and some previous in-house legal capability. This will be a new, stand-alone and very visible role across the group to support, advise and offer leadership across all transactional more strategic corporate and commercial legal issues.
Alongside taking hands-on ownership of day-to-day/ad-hoc transactional activities, this position will review all current group legal policies and processes and will have the opportunity to implement best practice and process change/improvement.
Key qualifications & experience required for Group Head of Legal application:
• UK qualified Solicitor with current SRA practising certificate
• Most likely suited to a professional with 5-10+ years PQE in well-rounded in-house commercial and corporate legal affairs
• Strength and depth in commercial in-house legal positioning/engagement (particularly Contract Law, IP & DP)
• Experience in drafting and creating contract templates for new product/service lines and complex negotiation of single and multiparty bespoke agreements
• Experience in SME growth environments, particularly sectors related to IT, software, technology and/or technical engineering services could be advantageous
• Proven ability to build internal stakeholder engagement to legal, from C-suite to operational levels of the business in both commercial and technical capacities
• Dual legal risk protection and commercial solution in approach
• Able to communicate complex legal issues in a digestible commercial manner
• Engagement and management of external counsel where required
• Experience in analysis and review of current legal process/position and implementing new commercial/best practice improvement
• Agile and adaptable - advise and own hands-on implementation
• Prior experience in a GC, Head of Legal or sole in-house legal counsel position preferred
